First Republic Square
Important landscaping works (1965)
In 1965, important landscaping works are taking place on Rustaveli Avenue (formerly Golovin Prospect until 1918), typical monumental buildings are constructed: Government House, Telegraph, Communication House, Iveria Hotel. The same year a Republic Square project is being set up.
Frozen Fountain (1983)
In 1983, on the west side of Rustaveli Avenue, the construction of Republic Square is ending (architect O. Kalandarishvili). In the same year, the same authors project, ``Frozen Fountain`` of Concrete, which remained the only component of a large-scale architectural project that was not completed in the 80s, was turned into a parade holding place by the Soviet government.
Dismantling of the Building (2005)
Following the dismantling of the building in 2005, the Republic Square was renamed the Rose Revolution Square to commemorate the events of November 2003.
First Republic Square (2018)
On May 25, 2018, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, the square was renamed the First Republic Square by Tbilisi City Council.
