Tusheti sits on the northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus, against the Chechen and Dagestani borders — among the most isolated inhabited regions in Europe. One road climbs in, over the Abano Pass, one of the highest drivable roads on the continent. It opens in summer. Snow closes it the rest of the year.
About Shenako
Shenako is a cluster of slate-roofed stone houses on a green shoulder above the valley, facing the main range. Its landmark is the Church of the Holy Trinity, visible from every approach. A few families winter here; in summer, the village fills again.
